Algeria: Forged Banknotes Foisted Via Post Offices
Many citizens have been flabbergasted after realizing that they have withdrawn from several banks and post offices in Algiers forged banknotes and have as a result rushed to police stations to lodge complaints.
These hapless citizens have realized having been swindled when their banknotes were rejected by several financial bodies including insurance companies after the detector devices exposed the forgery.
Soon after being apprised of the situation, the relevant security department opened a speedy investigation into the circumstances which led to the infiltration of large sums of forged banknotes into several banks and post office centers in various parts of the capital Algiers.
According to the preliminary findings of the ongoing inquiry, the bamboozled citizens told security officers that they had withdrawn from their banking and CCP postal accounts in several banks and post offices located in the districts of Hussein Dey, Kouba and Bachdjarah.
Echorouk reporters were dispatched for an assignment to several post offices located in these districts for more information but were lamely told by the CCP desk agents that they shouldn’t be held accountable for handing over to citizens forged banknotes stressing they were unaware that some counterfeit money was in their coffers.
The forged money identified by the security services includes 1000 dinar, 500 dinar, and 200 dinar banknotes, according to the same sources.
Echorouk journalists tried to get into contact with the top Manager of “Algerie Poste” to know more about this stunning affair but the latter didn’t deign to reply to their repeated phone calls.
