Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Algeria in France, his Excellency Amar Bendjama, has revealed that the Algerian government has decided to freeze the subsidies meant to shore up the presence of Islam in France and destined to the building of Mosques for the Algerian community in particular and for Muslims in general.
To recall, this financial grant from Algeria was set, five years ago at around 4 million Euros, the equivalent of more than 40 billion centimes.
The senior Algerian diplomat highlighted at the French Senate during a briefing about the mission, the presence and the funding of Islam in France and its various places of worship, held on May 31, the efforts deployed steadfastly by Algeria to promote the religion of Islam in France.
Mr Amar Bendjama told French Senators to this effect that Algeria is not directly involved in the construction of Mosques in France and that its financial support is minimal.
He also revealed during his keynote speech that Algeria has officially frozen its aid to the tune of 4 million Euros to 50 associations present in France for five years now.
Nevertheless, Algeria continues its financial support, in all transparency to the Grand Mosque of Paris, whose relationship with Algeria is deeply rooted in history, he underlined.
