Algeria Hit by Freezing Wave, Air , Road Traffic Disturbed
The considerable snowfall pouring on different regions in Algeria blocked several main roads and highways, isolated 18 provinces and forced Air Algerie to cancel a number of international and domestic flights.
In fact, the capital Algiers Friday and Saturday has dressed in white, for the first time since 2005.
The snowfall, which varied between 15 cm and 20 cm, hampered the mobility of cars, and caused a slow traffic in the major roads of Algiers, mostly in the upper suburbs of the capital.
However, a special weather report warned that the cold and unstable weather is accompanied with heavy rain and snowfall, adding that such bad weather is expected to last until Monday on all regions exceeding 400 meters altitude.
Such a remarkable snowfall was anticipated by a severe cold wave coming from Europe, and triggered disruption in air and road traffic.
Such severe weather has affected 18 provinces, along the interior, central, western and western regions, causing disturbance in the supply of heater gas and electricity.
Firefighters and police have been mobilized, as necessary means have been deployed; including snowplow trucks, to restore traffic.
Meanwhile, several international and domestic flights have been cancelled due to bad weather.
