Algeria hoping a national reconciliation and unity among Libyans, Foreign Ministry says

Algiers-In its first official reaction after Kaddafi’s death, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses hopes to see a national reconciliation, harmony and unity among the Libyans.

The spokesman for the ministry, Amar Belany told Echorouk that Algeria hopes the death of Kaddafi would contribute in consecrating reconciliation, harmony and unity among our Libyans brothers, and lead them to fulfill their legitimate aspirations to democracy and progress, and reconstruction of the country as well, in light of the power of law and justice.

This is first official reaction by the Algerian government following the death of Colonel Kaddafi, his son and security adviser Al Mouatassim, his defense minister Abu Bakr Younes Al Jabiri, and commander of the presidential guard Al Mansou Al Thaou, as well.

On the other hand, the Algerian government did not show a response to the requests of the NTC to hand over Kaddafi’s family to Libya, as stated by the head of the NTC office Mahmoud Jibril on Thursday, during the announcement of Kaddafi’s death in a press conference.

Belany added that the Algerian FM Mourad Medelci asserted many times that Algeria received Kaddafi’s family for purely humanitarian considerations.

“Algeria is committed to its duties and obligations towards the international laws and norms in dealing with the Libyan crisis. Algeria asserted, as member of the international community, and in many occasions, that it respects strictly and accurately the regulations and decisions of the international Security Council, today and in the future”, he explained.

“NTC Members are welcome to Algeria at any moment”.
