Algeria Is Boycotting An International Ministerial Meeting In Morocco

Algeria reduced its representation in the works of the eighth ministerial conference “for the 5 + 5 dialogue” on Migration and Development in Marrakech, Morocco, which gathered Foreign Ministers from the south Mediterranean countries and it dispatched, at the meeting that opened, on Monday, an official for foreign affairs, on behalf of the Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum.

The Algerian “boycott” of this international activity that is embraced by the Moroccan Kingdom comes in the context of a “tension between the two countries” that is reflected by the statements which were made by the Foreign Minister Bougadoum in the press conference that he held jointly with the General-Secretary of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, at the beginning of the week, and he said that his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, performed show acts that often reached to provocation and insulting.

The Moroccan Foreign Minister had attacked Algeria against the background of its stance towards the opening of consulates by African countries in the occupied city of El-Ayoun.

“Algeria does not build its relationships with provocation and insults and it is keen not to put oil on the fire in its relationship with Morocco”, acknowledging that he was not hoping to issue provocative statements from the Moroccan Foreign Minister.

Boukadoum commented on the position of some African countries that have opened consulates in the city of El-Ayoun, which Algeria considers a region that is occupied by Morocco, saying that “Algeria was hoping that (these countries) would open embassies in Rabat”.
