Algeria Journalists to Enter Syria Next Week, Official

Spokesman for Foreign Ministry, Amar Belani, revealed that the Algeria observers team reached Cairo on Monday and will join the Arab League mission to Syria.

Mr Belani told Echorouk reporter that the Algerian team comprises 10 observers, including diplomats, human rights activists and security experts, adding that the second team will travel to Damascus as by next week, to make a general understanding about the situation there on the ground.

He further added that journalists wishing to join the team of observers are welcome, saying representatives of the state owned TV are taking part in the third group.

As for the issue of Algerian students trapped in the strife torn Yemen, enduring bombardments from Hawthi rebels, Mr Belani said the Embassy of Algeria in Yemen found difficulties to get in touch with the students, but finally managed to talk to 11 of them. He explained that the majority of them rejected to be evacuated home, “and told the embassy they have a mission there and cannot give it up!”

Mr Belani further mentioned that the government will not give up Algerian nationals in Yemen, and will try to evacuate them home, just like it did before with those trapped in Libya, during the armed conflict there.
