Algeria: “Justice Ministry Accuses Magistrates’ Union Of Flouting A Pledge It Made To Zeghmati”
The Justice Ministry on Thursday evening accused the Union of Magistrates of violating a pledge it made during a recent meeting with Justice Minister Belkacem Zeghmati over leaving magistrates free to work and not responding to the strike call launched five days ago by the relevant union.
According to a ministry statement, the justice ministry “regrets that the negative behavior of some judges in some judicial districts who attained the degree of impeding the freedom to work, by resorting to uncivilized methods rejected by the righteous demeanor.”
The statement explained that this strike had continued despite “the President of the Union’s pledge during a meeting between members of his union and the Minister of Justice on 29th of October to put a final end to these actions and to issue a statement calling for the cessation of this lingering strike by respecting the freedom of each magistrate to work.”

In a correspondence, the ministerial department of Belkacem Zeghmati invited magistrates to challenge the decisions of their assignments with the president of the judicial district to which they were transferred.
In this context, the justice Ministry requires transmission and installation minutes for the appeals to be admissible. They will be presented at the second session of the Superior Council of Magistracy scheduled for November, according to the document.
