Algeria lifts emergency state
Algerian cabinet approved Tuesday a draft bill banning a legislative decree on emergency state extension, Algerian Press Agency (APS) reported citing an official release.
- “The draft bill will enter into force once it is published on the Official Journal soon,” said the same release.
- The cabinet approved four draft bills including the emergency state lifting-related decree.
- Algerian stipulated the emergency state on February 6th, 1993 and a legislative decree was promulgated on February 9th, 1992 to extend the emergency state.
- The cabinet approved a draft bill about the Popular National Army’s contribution in the mission of protecting general order out of exceptional cases.
- The release says this comes as part of having recourse to the Popular National Army’s units to meet counter-terrorism and devastation requirements.
- The cabinet approved a draft bill about the use and mobilisation of the army to counter terrorism and devastation. The army is in charge of coordinating counter-terrorism operations.
- Modalities of the presidential decree implementation will be determined through a joint decision between the national defence and interior ministers.
- According to the release, those texts will not create any new situation but they allow to the army to continue fighting terrorism until the expected purpose.
