Algeria: National Army, Gendarmerie and police rescue unemployed youngsters with 100,000 jobs

General Department of National Security, which has personnel of 140,000 police officers, is expected to recruit 60,000 young people over the next two years.

  • The Gendarmerie which counts 80,000 elements bets on the recruitment of 40,000 gendarmes during the same period as a reflection to the quintet programme of the government due to be extended to the end of 2010.  It is meant to insure a general security coverage in various Algerian regions, which refers the recruitment of 100,000 youngsters over the next two years in police and Gendarmerie.

  • Information available to Echorouk indicated that the systematic institutions headed by the National Popular Army recruited 50,000 young people in the last period.

  • Successful candidates in the baccalaureate 2008 and other high studies are involved as well.

  • Algerian National Defence Ministry has issued an instruction to cancel national service condition in recruitment.
  • According to observers, it “helps many young people who have a legal status to get a job”.
