Algeria Officially Offers To Host A Libyan Reconciliation Conference
The African Union committee in charge of “finding solutions” to the conflict in Libya announced that Algeria offered on Thursday to host a “national reconciliation conference” between the two parties to the conflict, in this country that mired in chaos since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Jarrad, representing the President of the Republic, participated in this summit.
“The commission took note of Algeria’s offer to host a national reconciliation conference”, the Congolese Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso said, while reading a final statement following a meeting of the African Union committee on the Libyan crisis in Brazzaville.
The statement of the African Union committee included, “The committee took note of Algeria’s offer to achieve a rapprochement between different points of view and support the return to negotiations in line with the relevant African Union decisions on reconciliation in Libya.”
“The committee announced its support for the Libyan political dialogue, noting the necessity of conducting a comprehensive dialogue that includes all Libyan parties to stop the conflict and seek a Libyan solution to the crisis.”
At the Berlin conference on Libya, President Abdelmadjid Tabboune announced that Algeria is ready to host dialogue sessions between the Libyan parties.
A few days ago, Tabboune confirmed in an interview with national media, that he is optimistic about the position of the Libyan parties on the Algerian offer, given that Algeria maintains one distance from all parties.
