Rains finally saved Algeria from drought spectre as water rose in dams as Algerians will have enough water for two years at least. Water in dams reached 67.83 percent i.e 4 billion and 644 million cubic meters, according to figures from the water ministry.

This comes as lack of rains raised fears among Algerians while the water minister Abdelouahab Nouri talked about water shortage.

Eastern area topped the list as its water reached 80 percent of its dams i.e. 2 billion and 49 million cubic meters. It is followed by western area with 66.36 percent and central area with 64.38 percent i.e 1 billion and 4 million cubic meters.

Algeria has 72 dams including Bni Haroun and Kssir dams in the province of Jijel which are completely full of water. Babar and Fam Kif dams in the province of Khenchela are 96 percent and 95 percent respectively full.
