Foreign Affairs minister Sabri Boukadoum has pointed out that the Algerian diplomacy aims at building bridges, and not heightening tensions, notably regarding relations with neighboring Morocco.

Asked during a press conference in Algiers about the statements of his Moroccan counterpart regarding Algeria, Mr. Boukadoum described the latter’s statements as “provocations and gesticulations”.

He said Algeria has never made inappropriate statements against Morocco and its people. He stressed that bilateral relations should be based on the vision of the future and not on insults and offensive language.

The Algerian diplomacy chief also underlined that words cannot hide the truth, stressing that there are clear-cut UN resolutions and international laws regarding the issue of Western Sahara, which is, he said, a founding member of the African Union.

He added that Algeria’s position is constant, stressing that the blameworthy media campaigns waged against Algeria, are fueled by some malicious circles.

Regarding those countries which opened Consulates in the occupied Saharawi city of Laayoune, Mr Sabri Boukadoum said Consulates should be opened in the Moroccan capital Rabat instead.
