Algeria ranked 71st out of the 177 most vulnerable states in the world: Foreign Policy Magazine report

The US Foreign Policy Magazine has ranked Algeria as 71st in the listing of the 177 most “failing” states in the world as part of an in-depth and investigative report taking into account a host of criteria and indicators concerning democracy, development prospects, economic growth, security, human rights' record, employment rate and brain drain.  

  • Algeria was listed among such “vulnerable” countries according to the report as Egypt, Israel, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Cameroon, Iran, Lebanon, Mauritania, Syria despite Algeria’s steady leap forward over the past decade in several fields of endeavour.
  • Morocco and Libya ranked better than Algeria respectively in the 91st and 111th position while Tunisia was classified quite better as a Maghrebian country in the 118th position.
  • This foreign policy magazine ranking report takes into consideration a set of high-profile criteria including the degree of democracy practice in the country, the ethnic and cultural cohesion, the economic growth rate, the educational standard, the freedom of speech and that of the press, the human rights’ situation and other salient development factors.
