Algeria Ready to Host 500 Foreign Monitors Ahead of Vote, Medelci

Algeria is ready to host more than 500 foreign observers as part of monitoring the parliamentary elections of next 10 May, Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci said Wednesday.

In an interview with the local radio, Mr Medelci specified that 120 monitors represent the European Union (EU), 200 from the African Union (AU), 100 from the Arab League (AL) 20 from the Islamic Cooperation Organization.

He added that the authorities in Algeria are waiting for the confirmation of two foreign NGOs, namely Carter and NDA to send their monitors.

As for the Algerian nationals established in Canada, who are not authorized by the local constitution to vote on Canadian territory, the top diplomat said Algerians are not the only nationals who are concerned, given that it is about a law that is implemented on all foreign national.

He further added that talks are underway with Canadian authorities to reach a solution and ultimately enable Algerian nationals there to practice their vote right.

On another side, Mr Medelci revealed that he will conduct a visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of his British counterpart, William Hague.

Several agreements in different sectors are to be sealed during this visit, the official said.
