Algeria Ready to Work “Closely” With the New Libyan Authority

Algeria has expressed willingness to work “closely” with the new Libyan authorities, “in order to set up fruitful bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both brotherly peoples,” says Foreign Ministry’s statement issued on Thursday.

The statement indicates that “Prompted by the declaration made by the Head of the African Union, Mr Teodore Obiang Nguema, at the high level meeting on Libya hosted by the UN in New York in 20 September 2011, and prompted by the message sent by the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC) to the head of the committee in 5 September, as well as by the communiqué of the 294th meeting of the Peace and Security Council held in 21 September 2011 in New York, the government of Algeria is keen to work closely with the new Libyan authorities, in order to establish fruitful bilateral cooperation for the benefit of both brotherly peoples, and to gather conditions for maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region.”

The Foreign Ministry concluded that “at this same occasion, the government confirms that its solidarity duty towards the brotherly Libyan people, dictated by history and neighbourhood, is a merit that will continue to be fully expressed in accordance with the principles and rules of non-interference, good-neighborliness, mutual support, and mutual respect.”
