Algeria repels 600 illegal immigrants from Niger

More than 610 citizens from Niger including women and children dwelling illegally on the Algerian territories have been expatriated to their home country since September 28, the United Nations has yesterday announced.

  • The communiqué adds that the reasons behind this operation are still unknown singling out this exceptional measure in Algeria which targets “the illegal immigrants only”

  • A communiqué released by the UN Humanitarian affairs based in Niamey, Niger, has revealed that a first group made up of 232 refugees have arrived to the region of “Arlit”, northern parts of Niger,  on September 28 while the second wave comprising 387 arrived on Saturday.

  • According to the UN experts, the Algerian authorities’ move was prompted by the threat of a likely infiltration of “ terrorists ” to the Algerian soil or the mercenaries who were fighting by the side of the ousted president Moammar Al – Queddafi.

  • The terrorist threat has increased in the Sahel region that became a “fertile” ground for the terrorist groups that paid allegiance to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb amid the deteriorating conditions that are prevailing in Libya.
