The steps taken by the Government to denounce the serious  drift of the Moroccan Consul General in Oran and call on the Moroccan side in unequivocal terms, to take the necessary measures, can have no other meaning or interpretation than that of his recall by his country, said Thursday the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelaziz Benali-Cherif Benali.

In response to a question from APS, about the statement made to MAP by the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nacer Bourita, on June 9, 2020, in which he said, among other things, that the recall of the Consul General of the Kingdom was made at the exclusive initiative of his country.

Mr Benali Cherif also stressed “the willingness of the Algerian side to avoid falling into any sterile controversy, recalled the steps, in accordance with universal diplomatic practice, taken by the Algerian Government to denounce the serious drift of the Moroccan Consul General and call on the Moroccan side, in appropriate terms and unequivocally, to take the necessary measures, which can have no other meaning or interpretation than that of the recall by Morocco of its consul in Oran.

“This demand of the Algerian side, Mr. Benali-Cherif said, was reiterated in clear and direct terms during the telephone conversations held between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, following this unfortunate episode.”
