Algeria respects principle of non-interference in countries domestic affairs, says FM
Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci
Algeria refuses to interfere in domestic affairs of other countries including “sister nations,†said Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci in response to criticism of the national official silent position towards the Libyan revolution.
- “Algeria has always refused to interfere in countries’ domestic affairs even if they are sister, neighbour and Arab nations,” reported the ministry website citing Medelci.
- He said he hopes that stability will be restored in Libya soon. “Algeria’s non-interference in Libya’s crisis does not mean that it does not follow its development.”
- This position did not end popular moaning as the government failed in marketing an important position like that of Algeria.
- The ministry’s response to accusations of transporting mercenaries to defend the Libyan regime caused astonishment among many observers. This response came very late and it was not quick enough.
- A solidarity convoy led by the Algerian Red Crescent is expected to go to Libyan borders. It carries four wagons loaded by 100 tons of food, mineral water and blankets.
- Algeria plans to run new convoys in the next few days. They are expected to carry 200 tons of food, medicines and blankets to refugees stuck in the borders.
