Extra security measures have been taken by the security services as part of a beefed-up plan aimed at preventing criminal offenses, thefts or breaches to law and order in Algeria’s big urban centers with on focus the capital Algiers and its outlying districts.

Security sources told Echorouk on Thursday that the extra security measures would be especially enforced in and around public markets, restaurants, entertainment places and in the close vicinity of places of worship, i.e.: mosques, throughout the capital Algiers.

The same sources added that a total of 6 thousand police agents in uniform and others in plainclothes would be deployed in all these strategic spots night and day during the holy month of fasting of Ramadhan in order to face up to any nefarious contingency which could to be brought about by possible wrongdoers or troublemakers.

In this connection, a number of offenders involved in acts of aggression, thefts and drug-smuggling have been rounded up over the past few days in several parts of Algiers by security forces, according to the same sources.
