The government set new conditions to applicants for the State’s direct aid to build rural houses. Mayors have to examine applications within 23 days before transferring them to provincial departments within 8 days.

According to a decision published on the Official Journal on Tuesday, the Algerian housing ministry fixed a number of requirements to be met by applicants as part of a transparent process.

The rural houses must be built in accordance to general technical characteristics mentioned in specifications. Only people who have been living in the same municipality for more than 5 years and who have a rural activity can apply.

Applications should be submitted to mayors and include original birth certificate of the applicant and his wife.

Mayors are in charge of preparing a list within 23 days starting from notification day. The list should be submitted at housing provincial departments within 8 days.

The ministry should reply within 8 days and prefects will approve the final list of applicants. It will be sent to the director of the agency related to the Housing National Fund to issue aid decisions.

The decisions will be transmitted to mayors and then to applicants.

According to specifications, applicants should start construction works within 60 days after notification of the aid decision.

Rural housing represents the lion’s share in Algeria’s national housing program with more than 750,000 houses.
