Algeria: Sizzling temperatures reaching 48° forecast in various parts of the country

A steady hike in temperatures has been forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the northern, central, eastern and southern parts of Algeria, according to the National Meteorology Office (ONM).

The ONM communication cell said that the sky would be rather clear during the next 24 hours but starting from Thursday, the temperatures would reach 40 degrees until Friday and Saturday in the above mentioned regions of the country.

For the south of the country, the local temperatures will range between 40° and 46° and could even reach 48° on the Ouargla, In Salah, Adrar axis.

Elsewhere, around 35 degrees Celsius will be recorded on the Hoggar and the Tassili regions in the Algerian Deep South.

The Director of the communication cell at the civil protection, Major Farouk Achour, told Echorouk that this sudden temperature increases would witness abatement as early as next Monday in most parts of the country.

He also indicated that the civil protection squads were fully mobilized in order to face up to any untoward contingency including possible accidents or outbreaks of forest fires.
