Algeria stops cars importing
The government stopped once again bank domiciliation for cars importing until licences are released and quota is fixed.
According to the chairman of the National Association of Car Dealers Youcef Nebache, a total of 5,000 vehicles imported from Europe and Asia were seized on Wednesday at Jijel and Mostaghanem ports. Ships carrying cars were stopped as well.
Nebache criticized the government’s decision, saying car dealers underwent large losses.
He added that 10 ships could not upload its cargo due to the decision while other ships had to stop in the sea.
“Spending a night at ports costs $5,000 per car. Losses have been valued at $50,000,” he told Echorouk.
He wondered why dealers were not informed of the decision, asking for the release of new car importing licences.
