Algeria supports AFRIPOL to combat terrorism, drug and arms trade

African countries are facing great challenges and security threats because the criminal organizations of all forms of terrorism, arms, drug and human trafficking, and money laundry, Interior Minister, Noureddine Badaoui.

“Algeria is determined to support the African mechanism for the conditional cooperation “AFRIPOL”, and all the parties are seeking to progress with their work and performance, and raise the level of coordination and cooperation between the countries of the continent, and with other partners to address these threats.”

Interior Minister added, during his supervision on the symposium, that led the African police commanders “AFRIPOL”, that Algeria always remains keen to achieve the objectives of upgrading the African partnership and the consolidation of international and regional cooperation, in particular by contributing with its experience, expertise and capabilities in this area, which is reflected through Algeria’s support, and providing material and organizational conditions that will ensure the good conduct of such a mechanism.

“Algeria is interested in this aspect, and is keen on enhancing cooperation and coordination in security-related issues in Africa and its countries. The challenges that are faced by the continent are large security threats of crime in all its forms of terrorism, arms, trade, drug and human trafficking, and others.”

“Police cooperation mechanism is the ideal and robust framework for establishing the rules of teamwork and solidarity among African States, to allow the formulation of common strategies and share the same vision in the modalities of dealing with crime, particularly terrorism and drug trafficking.”

For his part, Major General, Abdelghani Hamel, General Manager of National Security, explained that this African project’s effectiveness is in line with the security requirements of the African continent and with aspirations of other continents, and it is also a tool that can be indispensable in the field of international cooperation, which would require “a collective response against new risks that threaten the peace and security of our countries.”

Organization of this symposium reflects the commitment and will of the Algerian authorities to build this strategic project for the establishment of effective regional cooperation in the face of these security challenges.

In contrast, Ismail Charki, Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union, supported the idea of activating the mechanism “AFRIPOL”, and asserted that all the African Union services started their support for the establishment of such a mechanism, and that the African Union Commission has provided all the necessary support to Algeria for this committee’s work.
