Algeria Takes Urgent Measures To Stem Coronavirus Spread

The Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Djerad, gave instructions to take all measures in place to stem the spread of Coronavirus, under the recommendations of the World Health Organization, after recording the first case of the virus, related to an Italian national located at the life base of Ouergla province (southern Algeria), in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Prime Ministry’s statement said that the Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad ordered all concerned authorities to take all the measures in place to ensure health protection for all citizens and to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus, in implementation of the instructions of the President of the Republic.
The government decided to start strengthening health monitoring at the borders and the maritime and air entry points, to avoid the spread of the virus through one of the visitors to the country, whether Algerian or a foreign national, especially from countries that notice the high prevalence of the disease.
Djerad also ordered the establishment of departments and reference hospitals to monitor all suspicious cases and provide medical insurance for all cases that are coming from countries where the epidemic has spread.
To receive citizens’ questions and inform them about the virus, a vigilance and listening cell, composed of doctors and specialists in infectious diseases, was installed, with a green number “30 30” that is assigned to receive citizens’ calls, and it is available at the level of the Health Ministry.

Algerian Citizens Are Asked To Take Protective Measures

Djerad ordered to continue to provide all the necessary pharmaceutical supplies and materials to ensure all suspicious cases, in light of the “terrible” scarcity of protective masks and liquid antiseptic soap, and speculation at their prices, once the first case of Coronavirus was announced in Algeria.
He confirmed the need to raise the level of the stock of pharmaceuticals, especially protection supplies such as protective masks.
Instructions were made to local producers of these materials to raise their production capacities, to meet the additional needs, and to prepare a clear strategy for distributing and providing protection means when needed.
According to the statement of the prime ministry, a monitoring system will be established to combat all forms of speculation regarding these materials, in coordination with the customs, trade and health services, and obliging the Health Ministry to issue a daily statement on the development of the status of this epidemic in our country.
