Algeria’s black decade has not revealed all its secrets and effects yet. There are people who lost their life and property while others lost their mind and are neglected by society. Of them, there are terrorists.

Specialists believe that ill terrorist can not bear watching fighting and rape scenes perpetrated by his fellows in villages. He found himself between choosing to withdraw or continuing his actions with his group. He preferred to be a crazy man after he had no means to find a solution or to answer his questions.

He pretends he is the “Awaited Mahdi”

In Frantz Fanon hospital in the province of Blida, mental ill terrorists are under treatment after they were sentenced on terror-related charges. Of them, a 38-year-old man entered the hospital in May 2003. He was prosecuted for joining a terrorist group and trying to commit a murder. He had sleeping troubles and had a bad temper before he became terrorist. He suffered from insomnia and imagines violent events he experienced. He uttered baseless statements and says he is the “Awaited Mahdi.”

Another terrorist entered the hospital in March 2002 after he had been accused of joining a terror group. He is 37, single and unemployed. His doctors said he suffers from behavior troubles and he is a hostile person.

Zouabri’s assistant loses his mind

A professor in legal medicine told Echorouk assistant of terrorist leader Antar Zouabri lost his eye in a clash with the Algerian army. He surrendered to security forces and benefited from the Civil Concord law. Yet, he had a psychological shock and lost his mind.

His friend is an ant

A man told Echorouk his terrorist cousin had mental troubles in jail. He was unemployed and had violent behavior. He was addicted to wine and fought a lot with his neighbors. He had committed suicide attempts for many times.

He joined mountains in 1991 and killed a police officer in the province of Bouira (125 km east of Algiers). He kidnapped a girl and married her. He surrendered to security forces and benefited from Rahma law in 1997. Yet, he could not adapt to society and fought with people. He was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He made an ant a friend of him in jail and looks after it.

He chooses drug to forget the past

D. M. was jailed after he had participated in October 1988’s protests. He was released in 1994 and found himself lost. A terrorist group asked him to join it. He remained in mountains for 5 years. He had mental troubles and took fortifying tablets from his commander in order to concentrate on criminal attacks.

He surrendered in 2001 and benefited from the Civil Concord law. He chose drugs to forget his miserable life.
