Algeria: terrorists target minister, kill 3 security guards

Three security agents were killed in a gunfire ambush attack on Wednesday next to Dar El Oued tunnel achieved by Italian company Astaldi in Jijel province (350 km east of Algiers).

According to reliable sources, the victims who work at a security guard company were shot at 8:30 a.m. by terrorists carrying Kalashnikovs.

They likely infiltrated into that place on Tuesday night for a terrorist plot against Algerian public works minister Ammar Ghoul who was expected to inaugurate the tunnel before noon.

This terrorist plan comes within a general plan of the so-called Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb meant to kill ministers and top officials.  Some 800 metres separate between the tunnel entrance and the ambush place while this distance shrinks to 30 metres on the tunnel. The terrorists could have opened fire on the minister from a short distance when the minister was supposed to inaugurate the tunnel entrance.

On the other hand, Ammar Ghoul cancelled his visit very late on Tuesday’s afternoon for other government-related missions, Belkacem Ferachi Chef de Cabinet (Chief of Staff) told Echorouk.
