Algeria to Launch Its Third Satellite

Minister of Post, Information Technologies and Communication, Moussa Benhamadi, said on Saturday that Algeria will launch AlSat 2B telecommunication Satellite within the two coming years, specialized in audiovisual transmission.

This step will make of Algeria a fully independent satellite nation, Mr Benhamadi added, at the sideline of the visit he conducted to the new town of Boughzoul.

He specified that a development satellite center in Bir El Jir locality, in Oran province, will be constructed, to be added to the three centers already installed in Boughzoul.

The government had already launched AlSat2 satellite last year from India, while the first satellite was launched in November 2002.

The Algerian Space Agency created in January 2002 to develop, promote, and manage the countries space program.
