Algeria to promote 60,000 teachers
Chief of the national education minister’s staff Abdelmadjid Hedouas called on striking teachers to be “rational” and resume work as the ministry satisfied 80 percent of their demands.
“The ministry satisfied 80 percent of the unions’ demands. The rest will be settled. The strikers should be rational and resume work in service of pupils. Educators’ position will always be based on values and principles,” Hedouas told Echorouk.
“Regional education authorities informed striking teachers of the necessity of resuming work. If they do that, they will not be dismissed,” he added.
He also said a meeting will be held with unions after they stop the strike. “It is impossible to hold a dialogue with them while they are on strike.”
According to hedouas, the situation of 60,000 junior high school and primary school teachers was settled following the public service department decision. It will come into force by the end of March or in the beginning of April.
