Algeria to raise salaries by 80 percent
Authorities are expected to banish an article in the labor law to raise public service salaries following a tripartite meeting upon an instruction from the Algerian Prime Minister.
The ban of Article 87 bis of the labor law will lead to pay raise between 30 and 62 percent for public and private sector workers,” National Secretary in Charge of Litigation at the General Union of Algerian Workers said on Monday.
“This would need a comprehensive revision of salaries. The ban process was decided following the 14th tripartite meeting will be conducted upon the Prime Minister’s instruction. He asked social partners to determine its implementation ways which will be approved in the next tripartite meeting,” he told Echorouk.
The Union conducted a one-year-study on 87 national public and private enterprises from 33 sectors. It came up with a system based on comparison between salaries and each enterprise readiness to apply pay raise.
The study shows that a number of enterprises have enough capacities to implement the next tripartite meeting recommendations while others need the State’s help. Suggestions were presented to grant them loans, financial incentives or development programs so that they would raise their production capacity and their workers’ salary.
The government and social partners have not fixed the date of the next tripartite meeting yet as concerned committees were late in presenting their suggestions.
