Algeria to reduce taxes on mineral water production

The minister added that many local corporations started exporting large quantities of mineral water to the Arab Gulf countries.

“Producers believe that high taxes are behind the increase in mineral water prices,” he told Echorouk.

According to him, foreign investment in mineral and sources water would lead to reduce prices.

Mineral water investments of Danone and Nestle in Algeria have provided a positive competition atmosphere with “more control” on this field as well as respect of international standards.

Speaking on rains water, the Algerian minister said there were average quantities of rain water this year due to a recorded lack between February and April. That reduced the level of water storage to 50.30 percent. “It will be enough for a normal year for summer and the end of the year and even the beginning of next year.”

Sellal said Algeria’s southern groundwater reached 700,000 square kilometres out of 1 million square kilometres between Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
