The Algerian housing minister Abdelmadjid Teboune announced new measures as part of social rental houses. All the applicants will have to renew their applications including their salaries. The ministry set 24,000 DZ as maximal limit to acquire those houses.

“Applications updating will enable transparent and fair distribution of houses. Authorities will drop illegible applicants as their salaries exceed 24,000 DZ,” Teboune told Algerian TV channel on Saturday.

This comes as a number of applications go back to 10 years ago. As a result, salaries may have changed. Applicants will be asked to renew their applications once they are selected by local commissions in charge of examining applications.

According to sources, prefects were ordered to start updating applications as new housing projects were launched.

Official figures show that the number of social public houses in Algeria is estimated at 570,000 houses. Real-estate promotion offices will concede them to their occupiers.

Teboune said the public promotional houses may reach one million if lands are available.
