Algeria and the United Kingdom have stepped another stage in their cooperation during 2011. What was impossible some years ago only has been achieved by both countries with trade exchange reaching US$ 2.5 Billion from the period between January 2011 and October 2011. The figure shows a ‘’qualitative leap forward’’ in the cooperation between both countries, said Algerian Maghrebian and African Affairs Minister, Mr. Abdelkader Messahel.

Mr. Messahel who held a meeting with Lord Howell of Guildford, UK Foreign Office Minister told a presser on the sidelines of the meeting that “Trade exchanges reached $ 2.5 billion in less than a year”

On the other hand, Lord Howell of Guilford, who conducted intensive sessions during his two day visit to Algeria, met Algerian Small and Middle Sized Entreprises and Investment Promotion Minister Mr. Mohamed Benmeradi, and discussed prospects in the sector as well as strengthening economic relations between the two countries.

It is worth recalling that British exports to Algeria have more than doubled over the past five years, according to the British diplomatic mission to Algiers.

Britain invested 115 million Euros in Algeria in 2008. It is one of the largest investors in this country and is present, particularly in the oil and gas sectors.
