“Algeria Without Drugs” Campaign Launched From Algiers
The kick off of the biggest ever anti drug addiction campaign has been given on Tuesday in Algiers with the slogan of “Algeria Without Drugs.â€
Emblematic and influential personalities from different domains are taking part in this campaign, as to work together to save more than one million drug addicts from the mire, by convincing them to endure therapy.
In this context, the National Foundation for Health Promotion and Research Development (FOREM) has chosen 5 personalities to monitor the national anti drugs campaign. The 5 personalities are due to monitor the campaign in their domain of specialty, taking advantage of their experience and popularity, too. The campaigners are namely Professor Mostapha Kheyati for the health domain, Doctor Mustapha Ossedik for the cultural domain, Rap singer Lotfi Double Cannon for the artistic domain, Judo former ace, Salima Souakri for the sport domain, and Al Jazeera Sport journalist, Hafid Derradj, for the media domain.
Professor Kheyati said there are one million drug addicts in the North African nation, of which 200 000 are permanent addicts, and 800 000 are temporary drug users.
Meanwhile, Dr Mostapha Ossedik mentioned that the national campaign’s focus is on-ground activities as to get closer to drug addict youngsters.
He added that the campaign will work on building more disintoxication and therapy centers, in addition to the organization of sport and cultural activities to raise awareness on drug addiction. The campaign will see also the publishing of the “White Book” which includes vivid testimonies of healed drug addicts.
Meanwhile, FOREM sealed a convention with Alliance Assurance for the installation of 30 ad billboards showing the campaign theme.
