Algeria’s ambassador to the U.S.A, Abdellah Baali: “Washington exempts Algeria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism”

Algerian ambassador to the United States, Abdellah Baali said Washington wrote off Algeria officially from the discriminatory list that rose controversy several days, thing that would exempt Algerian travellers to the U.S territory from any inspections at airports.

• It is a positive move, which is different from the strange discriminatory measure adopted by the U.S administration on last December and that included Algeria among the black list containing countries with risk of terrorism through imposing a new screening strategy on air passengers.
• “U.S authorities officially informed Algerian Foreign Ministry through the Algerian embassy, that Algeria has been removed from the list of 14 countries with risk of terrorism and exempted its Algerian travellers from being subject to inspection and security scanning at the U.S airports beginning of April”, Bali said.
• “The resolution came following orders by the U.S President Barack Obama to the security services, including the review of action taken by the U.S government after a Nigerian man, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, tried to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear on a flight to Detroit from Amsterdam on December 25, 2009, as he was charged with trying to blow up the airliner, and was not stopped before he got on the flight.
• Algerian ambassador Baali expressed, during his statements to the U.S media, satisfaction of the Algerian authorities after the issuance of this decision. Noting that Algerian government expressed dissatisfaction and rejection after the first American procedure, and described it as discriminatory then demanded its abolition through statements of more than one Algerian official, particularly Foreign Minister Mourad Medelsi who summoned the American ambassador to Algeria David Peres and told him the resentment of Algeria of this unjustified procedure, as alluded to in more than one occasion to apply the principle of “reciprocity” protesting against exposing Algerian travelers to discrimination and shameful screening in the U.S. airports.
• Algerian ambassador to U.S.A, Ali Baali told the Washington Post that the new U.S decision was a culmination of the efforts exerted by Algeria for exemption from the discriminatory list that threatened the dignity of Algerian citizens, thing that have been refused by Algerian government that was determined to persuade its American counterpart to dissuade the resolution.
• Previously, the Algerian ambassador to the U.S.A had already spoken with the Assistant of the U.S Foreign Affairs Minister in charge of Middle East and North Africa and reviewed with Sanderson the current state of bilateral ties, plagued by a kind of tension because of the U.S decision.
