Algerian authorities disclose the list of the banned books in Algiers International Book Fair.
The Algerian culture ministry has formally informed the Arab and Algerian publishing houses that will take part to Algiers International Book Fair slated as from October27, through November6, about the list of the books banned during this cultural event.

The mixed ministerial committee, who is in charge of the selection of the titles, has picked up some 150 literary works published by 15 Arab publishing houses; considered as subversive ones and put on the black list.

According to the list in the possession of “Echourok”, most of the unwanted books come from Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other Arab countries and deal with religious issues. A large number of them eulogize Shiite ideology.

Books written by “outstanding” religious scholars like Sayed Kotb, Hassen Al Banna, and Ibn Taymya were put on top of the list. This list comprises titles like “ Islam and free Thinking”, “Hidjab” and “ Return to Koran” to Hassen Al Bana, “ The Islam’s battle and Capitalism”, to Sayed Kotb, “ The Destructive Message” to Ibn Taymya.

The culture ministry has vowed to wage a war against subversive books and other literary works that do not meet the Algerian standards in terms religious ideology as well as the books that advocate violence and call for terrorism.
