Algerian bank governor informs his minister about a large scale forgery two years later
The public prosecutor of Naples, Italy, will today examine the reports of the investigation he had ordered against the culprits involved in the stealing of 44 rolls of paper destined to print the Algerian currency five years ago.

Secret telephone conversations exchanged by the members of the Italian gang with their French henchmen will be disclosed during this investigation.

Judicial sources close to the case have revealed to Echourouk that the two experts who were assigned the task to conduct the investigation have confirmed the existence of a close link between the members of the Italian network and their French accomplices.

The criminals masterminded a plot to funnel and forge hundreds of thousands of paper bills with a value of 1000 Algerian Dinars each. But the inquiries conducted by the German, French and Italian investigators decline to give further details over the identity of the main culprit.

To recall, a batch of rolls of paper has disappeared few hours before its loading from the port of Marseille, France, toward Algeria in November 2005. The papers were on board of truck owned by a German printing factory.

For his part the Algerian finance minister Karim Djoudi has denied any link with the case “ The Algerian bank governor has informed me by phone in October 2008 ( two year after the event) that rolls of paper were stolen from the port of Marseille and he has lodged a complaint at the French judicial services”.

The minister has further indicated that he instructed the Algerian customs general manager to stiffen control at the eastern and western Algerian borders to avert the entry of the forged money to the Algerian soil.
