Algerian Centre for DNA analysis succeeded in identifying suicide bombers

Since the opening of the Centre for DNA analysis at the scientific police headquarters in Chateau neuve, Algiers, the team of 35 experts in analysis succeeded in demonstrating their high efficiency within the first months of the 2004 opening, particularly when they identified the identity of the Algerian suicide bomber involved in Madrid bombings in Spain.  

  • Spanish government were amazed and asked for their help. The laboratory of the DNA centre also identified the identity of a suicide bomber who implemented the terrorist operations since April 2007 as well as identity of a large number of victims.

  • Echorouk visits the DNA Centre and discovered the various steps and phases of analysis DNA and causes of resorting to it as a strong evidence of criminality by terrorists, as well as rape, identification of dead bodies and cases of legitimating which start after an order and commission by officers of the judicial police, gendarmerie and justice, except cases of proving descent.

  • Governor of the police, Belkhirate Saliha, also supervisor of the laboratory for DNA analysis, explained performance of her team, saying “DNA is the biological identification of people; laboratory identifies it after a judicial order by the police and gendarmerie. The process of analysing DNA begun by taking samples from the place of crime and everything there such as hair, blood, teeth, cigarettes, remnants of bodies, cloths, or body fluids such as sperm, as well as things.
