Algerian driving schools do not meet international standards, expert says

Some 350 thousand driving licenses are delivered yearly to fresh derivers by unskilled instructors, the Director General of the Guidebook and Traffic Safety Distribution Company Abdelouahab Hammouche has revealed.

  •

  • The traffic Safety expert has indicated that among the 10 thousand instructors that work in the 5 thousand driving schools across the country, many of them do not posses the required qualifications and do not abide by the program elaborated by the transportation ministry.

  •

  • Talking yesterday to Echourok, M Hammouche has noted that most of the driving schools do not follow the basic principles pertaining to the training of the candidates, noting that 40% of the instructors are not graduates and 20% are not fit for raining although holding a degree.

  •

  • M Hammouche has further noted that the Algerian authorities didn’t feel it necessary to create an institute dedicated to the training of the instructors, adding that the era of the generation of the instructions that followed the “ Rousseau” guide training is over since more than 20 years.

  •

  • Traffic accidents are blamed for the death of 4000 individuals yearly and hundreds of disabilities, due to the low standards of trainings in the driving schools across the country, where most of the instructors are either unemployed or illiterates, Abdelouahab Hammouche has regretfully declared.

  •

  • He has suggested drastic measures likely to remedy the situation including retraining sessions for the instructors all over the country and carrying out strict and regular controls over the driving schools.
