The Foreign Affairs Ministry has not confirmed the recent disappearance of several members of an Algerian family hailing from Constantine, consisting of four, a couple, stepmother and step-son.

They were abducted by a group of armed men and taken to an unknown location in Tripoli, the Libyan capital.

This untoward development ignited the deep concern of the sister of the kidnapped who lives in the south-eastern city of Biskra and who alluded to the responsibility for this abduction on the part of the Libyan authorities through a TV talk-show.

However, this suggests that it is rather the roaming militias that operate in Tripoli, who are responsible for the abduction of this Algerian family.

The rest of the family now in Constantine and Biskra, is worried about the health of the mother Djamila, aged over 65 and who suffers from several chronic diseases.

Her daughter fears for the lives of her mother because she could not withstand a lengthy detention, and is also concerned for his brother, Abdelhalim, as well as for her sister Hawa and her husband, of Palestinian origin, who were abducted in murky circumstances in a country wracked by chaos and turmoil since the death of the Libyan leader.

The absence of an Algerian diplomatic representation in Libya and of any body in charge of human rights’ protection there, render the communication channels extremely intricate in this country.

Nevertheless, the Algerian Consular Office in charge of Libyan affairs, located in Gafsa, Tunisia, where it was transferred for security reasons, is now striving to handle this case with discretion in the hope of swiftly achieving a successful breakthrough.
