Prices of fish in the Algerian market notice the highest prices ever, reaching 400 DZ per kilo in the coastal areas, and 500 DZ in internal regions.

On the other hand, the syndicate of professional fishermen asked for financial compensation during the period of biological rest, which will begin on May 2013 to 31 August, as they will be obliged to respect this period and will not fish, but this period is long for them, especially employers who have families to feed and who resort to any trade or profession temporarily in search of other income.

The union raised the problem of compensation of fishermen during the period of biological rest , pointing out that the prices of “sardines” will remain expensive, ranging between 350 and 400 dz per kilogram, until the end of the period of biological rest, which means that prices will remain high until the biological rest.

Fishing is a very sensitive sector in Algeria, the Algerian Minister of fisheries announced that the recovery of the biological rest period – under the Finance Act 2012 -lies close to 5000 professionals from the sector on the 50.000 fishing in Algeria.
