Security forces ‭foiled an explosives smuggling operation at the borders between Algeria and Mali on Saturday night.

Explosive belts were smuggled for terrorist groups ‭active in Tamenrasset (southern Algeria) and the mountains of ‭Boukahil in Djelfa (south western Algeria).

According to Echorouk sources, the security forces stepped up their patrols at the southern borders, after AQIM battalions imposed their controlon on some cities in northern Mali like Timbuktu which is militarily ruled by the leader “Abou Al Hammam”.

Two Toyota FJ 55 cars drew attention of security patrol when they tried to sneak out Algerian borders on the region ‭called Ain Kanoune, belonging to the department of ‭Tinezouatine in Tamanrasset (south of Algeria), about ‭570 km from ‭the headquarters‬ of the wilaya.

‬Security forces had surrounded the two vehicles from various areas using helicopters and arrested four terrorists including three Algerians, tow of them from Tamanrasset and the other from Adrar (south of Algeria), and the fourth one from Mali. The four terrorists belong to a terrorist group called “Movement of Ansar Eddine” (supporters of religion), allied with AQIM.

Security forces found, during the inspection of the two cars, significant quantities of “TNT” high explosives used in booby-trapping vehicles, loaded in small boxes of 1.5 kg, a large number of explosive belts, detonators and equipment for remote controlled bombing and grenades.
