The Comesta Company is to organize the first show-room of milk and dairy products between May 27th and 29th here in Algiers in conjunction with the Agriculture Ministry and the National Agriculture Chamber.

The upcoming show-room is expected to bring together a host of national private and private milk operators in addition to several foreign firms specialised in milk production and dairy products.

These foreign companies will take the opportunity of the Algiers trading event to display their milk products and to explore ways of promoting business and investment opportunities on the Algerian market.

The decision to organize this show-room came in the wake, of a period of turmoil and disruption, which has beset the national milk production sector over the past few months.

It should be noted that the annual milk consumption for each Algerian citizen has now reached 110 litres while the national total milk consumption has attained 5.3 billion litres per year.

In this connection, the trade Minister El Hachemi Djaaboub reiterated that the price of state- subsidized milk would not be increased stressing that the government had earmarked 180 million dollars, in a yearly aid package to national milk producers, in a bid to offset the cost margin between the import and selling price of milk on the national market.
