Algerian Handball Federation’ President to Echourok: The African trophy is not out of reach

The president of the Algerian Handball Federation, Djaafer Ait Mouloud has expressed his confidence in the great abilities of the “Greens” and their chances to snatch the Africa Nations Handball Championship trophy, seizing this opportunity to thank the Egyptian authorities for the excellent treatment they reserved for the Algerian delegation, hoping to last until the end of the tournament.

• Q: Let’s start by the end, the Algeria men’s squad have qualified to the second round?
•  
• A: The qualification was expected because we have an excellent squad their abilities enable them to go far in this competition and not satisfy with the qualification to the second round.

• Q: The players made an A class performance during the matches of the first round?
•  
• A :  Though some have declared that the Algeria squad didn’t play strong teams, I have to say teams like Congo Brazzaville and Ivory Coast have a respectable level and improved a lot technically and physically. For instance the Egyptian side have found tremendous difficulties to beat Gabon.

• Q: Things will change in the second round, isn’t ?
•  
• A: Indeed, and we will face stronger teams our performances will live up to this level. We are not impressed by any squad because we posses a strong team able to secure a berth to the next World Cup.

• Q: Will the Algerians satisfy with securing a position on the podium?
•  
• A: That was the objective that we targeted before the start of the competition because we aim to qualify to the World Cup, but we are looking forward to reaching the final and why not snatch the trophy. As competition goes on, we have noticed that the goal is in our reach.

• Q: The ladies have unexpectedly passed to the second round?
•  
• A: This is good news for them, although most of the players lack experience in such tournaments, they succeeded to beat Cameroon and this will uplift their spirits for the rest of the competition.

•  Q: What about the conditions of your stay here in Egypt?
•  
• A: We have been agreeably surprised by the excellent treatment and warm welcoming reserved to the Algerian delegation; I think that the Egyptians are looking forward to burry the hatchet and resume the good relationships that were prevailing in the past between the two countries.

• Q: The Algerian shirt is not stamped by Echourok logo?
•  
• A: We would have loved to play with the logo on our shirts, but things are beyond our will.
