Algerian Health Ministry Declares State Of Alert Due To Africa's “Trypanosomias” Disease

Health, Population and Hospital Reform Ministry gave instruction of “urgency” to all provincial health managers, ordering them to the isolation of all Africans who were transported to hospitals, and were subjected to accurate tests and analyses, after it became clear that many of them are infected with the African “Trypanosomiasis” disease, or what is known as the sleeping killer, that is transmitted by the “Glossina” insect quickly, especially during the heat.

The instruction that was sent by the Minister Abdelmalek Boudiaf came after recording many cases of this disease among Africans in the east of Algeria, including two cases in Annaba province, which were developed under quarantine at the hospital, while blood samples from the infected were transferred to the Pasteur Institute in Algiers capital to validate the preliminary analyses that proved that the results are positive.

Same instruction asked for isolating all Africans who were transported to hospitals and were isolated them in special rooms for accurate analyses and tests in order to avoid the transmission of this dangerous disease which spreads very quickly, and the reduce victims a among Algerians, especially in the summer, when the spread of this disease is quick due to the flying insects which transmitted the disease to the citizens.

Symptoms of the “Trypanosomias” disease begin in the form of fever, headache, and itching and pain of joints as initial symptoms, to develop after several weeks to drowsiness and impaired breathing and sleep disorders before taking the patient in a coma and then death, as it spreads in abundance near the swamps and waterways where the proliferation of the insects.

Military Health Doctors warned of the dangers that are caused by the exodus of illegal immigrants who are coming from 23 African countries to Algeria, as the health services counted 10 fatal diseases that are transmitted by 9000 African illegal immigrants to Algeria annually such as the malaria, AIDS, hepatitis C, as Mali and Niger are considered the main source of epidemic cases in Algeria, such as malaria by 90% and “Ebola” by 30%.
