Algerian-Japanese committee to discuss business

The bilateral committee of Algerian-Japanese enterprises is expected to hold its sixth session Monday in Algiers to improve bilateral economic relations in sectors out of hydrocarbons, Algeria News Agency (APS) reported.

The session untitled ‘New dynamics for diversified partnership’ will be co-organized by the Algerian Forum of Companies Leaders and Japan’s Federation of Economic Organisations (Keidanren), said APS.

An important delegation of Japanese businessmen will attend the meeting co-headed by the president of the Forum of Companies Leaders Reda Hamiani and CEO of Japanese engineering and construction company JGC Yoshihiro Shigehisa.

Talks will focus on the “evolution of economic situation and business environment in Algeria.”

Participants are also expected to explore perspectives to extend the Algerian-Japanese partnership in fields out of hydrocarbons.

“The 6th session of the Committee will also be an opportunity to announce the launch of JGC’s Algerian branch,” said APS.

“JGC considers extending its cooperation field and investing in power plants, water desalination factory and other sectors.”

JGC also wants to make Algeria a “pressure point for its global re-deployment and exporting its services to Africa.”

Figures from Algerian customs show that Japan was the seven largest providers in Algeria in 2007 with $1 billion exports up by nearly 50 percent compared to 2006.
