Algerian man killed in Span train crash
Algeria’s ambassador to Spain Mohamed Hanache said an Algerian national was killed in rail accident near the north-western city of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
“The victim’s name is Chiad Mohamed. He was born in 1996 in Algiers and was living in Alicante with his wife and children,” the ambassador told Echorouk on Friday.
He added that Spanish authorities informed the embassy on Thursday that an Algerian man died in the accident. A senior employee in charge of consulate affairs went to the city of Santiago de Compostela upon a request from the ambassador. The victim’s identity was checked through his documents and his wife recognized him.
The embassy started administrative and legal procedures to transport his body to Algeria.
Spanish media reports said Friday police forces identified three foreign victims in the crash. One of them was from Algeria. The second one was Mexican and the other from the US.
The accident took place on Wednesday killing 78 people.
