Algerian paintings at European Parliament
Algerian artist Abu Bakr Hamsi exhibited his paintings at the European Parliament in Brussels during the week 3-7 November showing symbols of his childhood inspired from his native town.

Hamsi told Algeria News Agency (APS) Sunday he is inspired from the daily life of people in the Kabylie region (north of Algeria) and Berber signs.

The 40 paintings were exhibited during the Arab Week as part of the European Year for Intercultural Dialogue.

They show traditional wedding parties, housework and landscapes of the Kabylie region as well as women portraits and traditional ceramic dishes.

In a press conference held after the closure of the Arab Week, Hamsi said Brussels is the city of diversity and it opened doors to the Arab World.

“My paintings show the daily life in the Kabylie region while others represent a possible co-existence in the world,” he told the conference.

Hamsi has been living in Brussels since 1975.
