Algerian patrol escapes bomb blast

A Patrol of Algerian security forces Thursday escaped a terrorist ambush in Souk Elhad in the province of Boumerdes (50 km east of Algeria).

Police officers say a bomb went off on their way to Bni Amrane town immediately after the patrol had passed by. There were no reports of casualties.

The bomb which was remotely controlled did not hit its target, they said.

Boumerdes is considered as the main stronghold of the so-called the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) which claimed responsibility for a series of terror attacks in Algeria.
