Algerian Pledge To Finalize Projects To Supply Western Sahara With Electricity

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the Minister of Energy and Transport of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Salek Baba Hassna, agreed Sunday in Algiers to continue efforts to finalize projects for the supply of electricity to Sahrawi cities, the ministry said in a statement.

During a meeting held within the framework of the examining of ways and means of bolstering cooperation between the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Algeria, “described as historical and fraternal” in the energy field, especially in the supply of electricity, it was agreed to pursue efforts to finalize these projects to meet the needs of the population, especially during the summer period, the same source said.
During the meeting, the Sahrawi minister expressed his thanks for the continued support of the Algerian government to the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and the efforts made by the energy sector in the implementation of various projects to supply Sahrawi cities with electricity.

In this context, Mr. Arkab expressed the availability of the energy and mining sector to provide all the necessary support to finalize the electricity supply projects and also in terms of training Sahrawi technicians in the areas of monitoring, management and maintenance of electrical facilities.

The latter also highlighted the importance of the project to create a Sahrawi entity that will be responsible for the management and development of electrical services, “for which the Algerian energy sector is willing to provide all its assistance and expertise for its achievement.

In addition, it was agreed to coordinate efforts and develop a work program to fulfil the needs expressed in terms of electricity supply and training in this field or endeavor.
