Algerian security services maintain the same second degree procedures of emergency in anticipation to February 19 march
General Directorate of the National Security kept on the same procedures which were taken during the last march of February 12, in anticipation to the march which would be organized by the party for change and democracy next Saturday.
In this context, security sources told Echorouk that the General Manager of the National Security maintained on the same security plan that has been adopted on February 12 march, because it was successful in various cities, deploying 50.000 policemen although they were not fully used, due to the absence of a large number of demonstrators. However, fear of violence among youth pushed Colonel Hamel to keep the same number of policemen who were divided into three groups on the way of rotation, starting from Friday night.
The first official of the national security also maintained the state of emergency at second degree, and ordered all the units across the Algerian territory, especially in Algiers, to the need for commitment to their places of work and forget about weekends and weekly holidays, asserting on the non-use of live ammunition against civilians, especially as the march is not licensed by Algiers authorities.
In a related context, the General Directorate of the National Security maintained the cell of crisis created before march of February 12, and entrusted with the task of follow-up of events and developments of the march of the party of change and democracy, as well as the preparation of special reports of the event with the codification of all the latest developments of February 19 march.
Both General Directorate of the National Security and Gendarmerie received the same instructions by the PM, urging them to tighten control and surveillance of the government offices and public institutions in order to avoid any attempts to violence and riots during next Saturday’s march.
For its part, the National Gendarmerie maintained on the same security measures, and ordered all its units to enhance control at the level of Algiers entrances and exits to provide public security in anticipation of any violence and riots during next Saturday’s march.
